There are many RDR2 players who are unable to play the game in full-screen mode. If you are also facing the same issue then you are in the right place. This post provides few workarounds which can help you to play Red Dead Redemption 2 in full-screen mode. Let us start with a real-life scenario.

Red Dead Redemption 2: Cannot Get Game to Go Fullscreen
I have tried Alt+Enter, all the game does is flicker and stay in windowed mode, I have tried changing my settings too, nothing is working and I’m not sure what to do.
Like the above users, there are multiple players who are not able to play RDR2 in full-screen mode. Please perform the steps mentioned below to fix this issue. One of the steps should help you play Red Dead Redemption 2 in full-screen mode.

Use Alt + Enter

For many players it has worked, press Alt + Enter on the keyboard and check if you can switch to full screen or not. It may not work for all, in case it does not work for you, move on to the next step.

Do Clean Install of Graphics Driver and Update Windows

Many players were able to get the full screen working after the clean installation of the graphics driver.
AMD users make sure to get rid of the legacy AMD graphics card details- Systems with current (or previously installed) AMD graphic cards should download and run the AMD Cleanup Utility from the AMD website.

Use Right Resolution

If you are using an external monitor or television then make sure you are using the right resolution. Go to TV settings and select aspect ratio or use screen fit option. If you are playing RDR2 on a 4k screen, try changing your desktop to match the game’s settings i.e 1920×1080.

Switch to DX12

In-game, go to the Options and select DX12 and Fullscreen and click on Apply Changes to save the settings.

Switch to DX12 and select full screen RDR2

Few players may face crashing and freezing of the RDR2 game after switching to DX12. To fix this do the following:

Switch to fullscreen on Vulkan:

  • Make right-click on your desktop and select NVIDIA Control Panel.
  • On the left side of the Nvidia Control panel, click on Change Resolution, from the resolution list select a lower resolution > click Apply.
  • Now change the resolution back to the same as windows resolution and hit Apply.

If you do not find the NVIDIA control panel then open the Intel control panel and change the resolution to 1920×1080 or lower and RDR2 should start full screen.

Wrap Up

I hope one of the steps provided in the post should help you to play Red Dead Redemption 2 in full-screen mode. In case nothing works then contact Rockstar Games and let them know about the issue.
