How To Fix Windows Update Error 0x80070002 On Windows 11 or 10

Step 1) Run Update Troubleshooter

Windows 10 Users: Open Windows 10 Settings/Update & Security/Troubleshoot/Additional Troubleshooter/Click on Windows Update/Run the troubleshooter. Once troubleshoot is complete restart your PC and then update Windows.

Windows 11 Users: Open Windows 11 Settings/System/Troubleshoot/Other troubleshooters/Windows Update/Click on Run. Once done restart your pc and update Windows 11 once again.

Step 2) Use Windows 10 Update Assistant Or Windows 11 Installation Assistant

Windows 10 Users: Click on the below link to visit Microsoft website

Click on Update now, run the exe file, it will launch update assistant, if update is available, install it.

Windows 11 Users: Go to Microsoft link provide below

Under Windows 11 Installation Assistant click on Download Now, run the exe file and update Windows 11.

Step 3) Reset Windows Update Components

Open Notepad, copy all the commands provided below and paste in the Notepad

net stop cryptsvc
net stop appidsvc
Ren %Systemroot%\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old
Ren %Systemroot%\System32\catroot2 catroot2.old
regsvr32.exe /s atl.dll
regsvr32.exe /s urlmon.dll
regsvr32.exe /s mshtml.dll
netsh winsock reset
netsh winsock reset proxy
rundll32.exe pnpclean.dll,RunDLL_PnpClean /DRIVERS /MAXCLEAN
dism /Online /Cleanup-image /ScanHealth
dism /Online /Cleanup-image /CheckHealth
dism /Online /Cleanup-image /RestoreHealth
dism /Online /Cleanup-image /StartComponentCleanup
Sfc /ScanNow
net start bits
net start wuauserv
net start msiserver
net start cryptsvc
net start appidsvc

Now click on File in notepad, select Save as, select the location as Desktop, name the file as Wufix.bat, in notepad just below the File name for Save as type select All files and then click on Save. Go to desktop make a right-click on the Wufix file and click on Run as administrator, let the process complete, this process will take some time. Restart your pc and update your Windows.

Step 4) Use Media Creation Tool

Windows 10 users go to media creation tool website provided below.

Windows 10 users , click on Download tool now, run the exe file, click on Accept, by default Upgrade this pc now would be selected, click on Next, let the download complete, before the installation you will see the screen where the option to keep your personal files and apps would be checked by default, when this option is checked you will not lose any data on the computer. Once done your Windows 10 should be updated to the latest version.
