Fix Metro Exodus Errors, Bugs, Freezing, Crashing, Graphics and Connectivity Issue

Overview: Metro Exodus is a single-player first-person shooter game developed by 4A Games and published by Deep Silver. Today in this post we will troubleshoot crashing, loading, launching, freezing, low FPS, and graphics issue with Metro Exodus on PC.

Check the System Requirement for Metro Exodus

Most of the issues occur when your computer does not meet the minimum system requirement to play the game. You may experience significant problems while playing the game, so please make sure your PC meets the minimum configuration to play Metro Exodus. Both Minimum and recommended PC requirement is mentioned below. For best gaming experience recommended configuration is preferred.

Perform Hard Reset

Most of the time hard reset fixes the issue. Unplug all external devices from your computer. The only devices you should leave connected to your computer are your monitor, mouse, and keyboard if the computer is a desktop. Now Shut down your desktop and unplug the power cable from the desktop. In case of laptop unplug the charger and remove the battery if applicable.

Now press and hold the power button down for approximately 15-20 seconds then plug in the power cable back to the desktop. Plug in the battery and charger back in case of the laptop and start the system and launch Metro Exodus. In case the issue still persists move on to the next step.

Step 1
Exit Steam and restart the PC. If not fixed try step 2.

Step 2
Verify the integrity of game files in Steam or Epic Launcher.

Step 3

Try to disable your antivirus.

Step 4

  • Launch Steam
  • Make a Right-click on the Metro Exodus and choose Properties
  • Select Local Files
  • Click on Uninstall Game
  • Once the game is uninstalled, click on Browse Local Files
  • Delete remaining files Manually
  • Now Reinstall Metro Exodus

Note: You will lose all the game data and the game will start from scratch.

Epic Games Launcher users can follow the same process.

RTX Not Working Metro Exodus

  • You need GeForce RTX 20XX series cards.
  • DirectX 12 and Windows 10 Version 1809 is required. Update your Windows to 1809.
  • Update Metro Exodus and NVIDIA graphics drivers.

Random Stuttering and Freezing Issue While Playing Metro Exodus

Install more RAM, 8 GB just meets the minimum system requirement, also playing the game on SSD is recommended.

Metro Exodus Crashing with DX12 On

Make sure video card supports DX12.
Make sure Windows 10 is updated to latest build 1809.
AMD and Nvidia card has the latest update.

Make sure third-party overlay solutions is disabled including Nvidia overlay, still the game is crashing then get rid of Geforce Experience.

Workaround
Launch Task Manager
Select Services
End service named TabletInputService

To disable it permanently
Type Registry Editor in Windows search box and navigate to the below location
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\TabletInputService
Select the REG_DWORD named Start and edit the value data to 4.

Fix Issue with Ray Tracing and DLSS

For Nvidia, RTX GPUs users make sure graphics card is updated and update Windows latest version 1809.
Also, note that DLSS does not work with Nvidia RTX 2080 on a 1080p display.

HDR Not Working Metro Exodus

In order to get the HDR working, DX12 should be enabled in the game. Enable the DX12 and HDR in the game as well as in Windows. If not done in either, the in-game render will appear over-contrasted.

To fix this, enable the DX12 in the game and HDR in the game as well as in Windows.

Resolution Problem with 4K Ultra-wide Monitor

This is to let you know that Metro Exodus does not support 4K Ultra-wide Monitor, the workaround might help you to play Metro exodus at native 4k resolution

Navigate to C:\Users\% username%\Saved Games\metro exodus\folder number. Find the resolution and set it as mentioned below:

r_res_hor 3840
r_res_vert 2160

If you face any connectivity issue with the Epic Games Launcher try the following steps:

  • Use a Broadband internet connection.
  • Ensure that you are not behind a proxy and do not have epicgames.com filtered.
  • If you are behind a proxy, add an exception for epicgames.com.
  • Ensure that ports 80, 443 (https), and 5222 are unblocked.
    Navigate to Control Panel> System and Security> Windows Firewall.
    Click Advanced Settings.
    On the left, select Inbound Rules.
    On the right, select New Rule
    Select Port, then click Next.
    In the text box beside Specific local ports, enter 5222, 443, 80, then click Next three more times.
    In the Name box, enter UE4, then click Finish.

Verify or Repair Metro Exodus in Epic Games Launcher/ Steam

Launch Epic Games Launcher and click on Library options on the left side of the window.

Now click on the Setting icon (gear icon) as shown above on the Metro Exodus game tile. Click on Verify on the drop-down menu. In the below pic it’s a different game but you select the Metro Exodus Game.

It will verify the installation of your Metro Exodus game and download again any missing or corrupted files.

Steps to repair the game in Steam.

Launch Steam

From the Library section, right-click on the Metro Exodus game and click on Properties from the menu.

Select the Local files tab and click on the Verify integrity of game files… option.

Steam will verify the game’s files and download again any missing or corrupted files.

Error LS-0013 Unable to Launch Metro Exodus

Step 1
Verify the game from Epic Launcher.

Step 2
Uncheck the Administrator from Epic and Metro Exodus Launcher. Make a right Right-click the Metro Exodus desktop shortcut.
If you don’t have one, look for the yourgamename.exe file in the executable file in the INSTALLATION DIRECTORY
Select Properties, click on the Compatibility tab and uncheck the box at the bottom under settings where it says Run this Program as an administrator and Click Apply and OK. Doing this may fix LS-0013 error

Step 3
Uninstall and reinstall the game.

Make Sure Auto Update is Enabled in Epic Games Launcher

For players who are using Epic Games Launcher Make Sure Auto Update is Enabled for Metro Exodus game in Epic Games Launcher. To check that go to Settings option on the left side of the window.

Run Epic Games Launcher/Steam and Metro Exodus  game as an Administrator

Right-click the Metro Exodus desktop shortcut.

If you don’t have one, look for the yourgamename.exe file in the executable file in the INSTALLATION DIRECTORY

Select Properties, click on the Compatibility tab and check the box at the bottom under settings where it says Run this Program as an administrator and Click Apply and OK.

Steam Users can follow the same steps

Make Changes in In-Game Video Settings

The best way to boost performance is to make changes in the display or graphics settings. To do so, go to the in-game Video Options. There is a lot of options for you to make changes. In case of FPS drops, try to lower the quality, change the Graphics quality to medium from high. It will help to ensure a consistent FPS.

A low number will ensure smoother gameplay if your system just meets the minimum system requirement.

You can experiment with other settings under the Video tab. Each settings has a different impact on performance, doing so may help to find the perfect setting to play Metro Exodus smoothly.

Add Exception to Antivirus and Firewall/Disable Windows Firewall and Multiple Antivirus

In case you are facing Metro Exodus:  loading, launching or connectivity issue then it might be antivirus or firewall which does not allow the game to load because it recognizes game files as potentially harmful and blocks it from running. Add exceptions for Metro Exodus. Call your Antivirus company if you need help in adding an exception for Metro Exodus.

Most of the time Antivirus causes your game to crash or freeze so if you have multiple security running on the system then disable all the antivirus except one or try switching to another antivirus if one particular antivirus is causing the issue.

Also disable/uninstall the below application, VPN SOFTWARE (e.g. Hamachi), VoIP applications (e.g. Teamspeak, Ventrillo), Video chat services (e.g. Skype), Streaming applications (e.g. Xsplit), Peer-to-Peer software (e.g. uTorrent / BitTorrent), Virtualising software (e.g. Vmware) as these software may conflict with the Metro Exodus game.

Update Windows 10

Open Windows 10 setting by pressing Windows + I key on the keyboard, then click on Update & Security, now click on Check for updates to update Windows 10.

Perform Clean Boot

Type in msconfig in Windows search box and click on System Configuration.

Click the Services tab and check the box to Hide all Microsoft Services, then click the Disable All button.

Now click on the Startup tab, then click on Open Task Manager.

Click each of the Startup programs in the list then click the Disable button. Disable all.

Close the Task Manager window.

Click OK on the System Configuration window to save your changes.

Restart the system and try launching Metro Exodus game again.

Stop the Windows 10 Apps From Running in the Background

Open Windows 10 setting by pressing Windows + I key on the keyboard, then click on Privacy and then scroll down and select Background apps and disable all the apps which you do not need.

Do Not Overclock or Turbo Boost a Processor or GPU to Play Metro Exodus

In case you are opting for Overclocking or Turbo Boosting hardware in your computer, then we suggest resetting the processor or GPU to the manufacturer specifications, as doing so may prevent any crashing and freezing.

Also, disable Intel Turbo Booster from BIOS settings and in case you are not able to figure out contact your system manufacturer.

Use Recommended Settings to Play Metro Exodus

Please keep in mind that higher settings maximize the workload for the system hardware overall, even if your system exceeds the minimum system requirement for the game.

Opting for reduced graphical features in the game is recommended if you are experiencing an issue with performance and stability.

Update Graphics Drivers to Run Metro Exodus

Visit your system manufacturer’s website to update system BIOS, audio driver and all the necessary driver especially the graphics card driver.

NVIDIA Users: GeForce Experience can be used to check and update the drivers automatically, visit the below link to auto update or update it manually.

After updating the drivers restart your computer and launch Metro Exodus.

Bad or Wrong DirectX installation

Update Direct X by installing the most current version. Direct X is the software which the game uses to communicate with your PC. If it’s outdated or bad it can cause crashing and freezing. Visit the below link to update the Direct X to the latest version from Microsoft website.

Fix Graphical Tearing

This occurs mainly because of the game running at a higher refresh rate than your monitor can handle.

You might know that disabling v-sync can reduce graphical tearing, but still, you are facing tearing while playing Metro Exodus game then toggling v-sync to on in your game settings might fix it.

Fix Micro Stuttering

Micro stuttering (shudders and jolts while moving) happens when the game is not optimized properly, particularly when it’s played under multiple Direct X versions.

Disable latest Direct X version and restart your game. In case you are doing this please keep an eye on the patch notes for the Metro Exodus game to know when it is fine to re-enable it. Micro stuttering can sometimes be a driver issue, it may be driver conflicting or maybe the latest driver not working well with Metro Exodus game. In this case, you might need to wait for the new driver to fix it.

Fix Rainbow or Green Artifacting

In this case, a large number of pixels on the screen changes colors, it may be green, pink or like a rainbow. The game may be running on the background but you only see green or rainbow artifact.

It may be the bad graphics card, overheating or some hardware issue with the card

Check if the fan is working and reseat the graphics card if its a CRU(Customer Replaceable Unit) component

Fix Rubberbanding

Rubberbanding when the in-game character gets back to the starting point. It tries to move but comes back to the original place. This is generally a connectivity issue, not a graphics issue, use broadband Wifi connection or ethernet cable to connect. Make sure there is no issue from your ISP.

Use CCleaner to Fix Crashing PC Issues

Corrupt or out of date file may cause crashing or many more issues while playing Metro Exodus game. It is recommended to use CCleaner to fix many PC issues which will improve the game performance.

Uninstall and Reinstall Metro Exodus

If somehow game files have gone corrupt then uninstalling and reinstalling Metro Exodus may fix the issue.
