Fix Internal Microphone Not Working on macOS Mojave on MacBook and iMac

Overview: Today in this post we will perform troubleshooting steps to fix Microphone issue on your Mac. The microphone is not working for many Mac users after upgrading the system to macOS Mojave.

So, let’s start with the real user’s practical scenarios!

Scenario 1: iMac Internal Microphone Not Working

Perhaps a couple of months ago, I had trouble using Skype: the other party could not hear me. Last week I was trying to test up to use another video conferencing system that provides a video & audio test in setting up prior to use. Could not get any VU-meter response on mic test. Tapping on the iMac case showed signal to the VU-meter. Is there any way to test for certain this is a hardware problem? Can there be a software/OS problem here, like a corrupt driver or .plist, etc? (Running OS 10.10) What about an external mic: who has had success with using that instead? Thanks!

Hello, ever since I updated my MacBook Pro early 2015 to OS X Mojave my microphone is not working. It works on the guest account, but not on my main one. Is there a way to fix this? Thank you!
