Overview: Many Dell users are facing an issue in running SupportAssist program, users are complaining about SupportAssist not opening or launching, SupportAssist Stuck on hardware scan, SupportAssist not responding.

So, let’s start with the real user’s practical scenarios!

Practical Scenario 1: Dell Support Assist the latest version not working

I see that no one has this issue resolved. I had the latest version installed and after windows update it no longer loads. I uninstalled and reinstalled and on the reinstall, it says that the internet connection is lost and the install was canceled. I checked the security settings and that is not the issue. I see one person says the issue has persisted for 4 months with no resolution, what now?

Practical Scenario 2: Dell Support Assist the latest version not working.

I downloaded the latest version of Support Assist (Version 2) a few days ago. When I try to open it, it tries to load but won’t load properly (icon just continues to flash and flash), with a message that optimization tools are loading. The same problem occurs when I try to open it as administrator. There is no option to repair this app when I go to Settings. The only 2 options are “modify” or “uninstall” This new version of Support Assist is installed on both my XPS 8930. Is anybody else having a problem with this latest version? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. “

a) Visit the folder C:\Program Files\Dell\SupportAssistAgent\bin\Resources

b) You will find the file named New-Dell-Logo-White-Small

c) Make a right click on the above file and remove Small from the end of the file name, it should be only New-Dell- Logo-White like shown below

Now launch the SupportAssist, it should work.

Uninstall SmartByte application

Almost all Dell computers come with a preinstalled SmartByte application. I was able to fix SupportAssist Issue by uninstalling this app on my Dell computer. Please follow the below steps to uninstall SmartByte.

Open Apps & Features by typing Apps & Features in the Windows search box as shown below


Once Apps & Features is open type SmartByte in the search box and Uninstall it as shown below


Once uninstalled, restart your PC and then launch SupportAssist.

Update Windows 10

Type in Windows update in the windows search box as shown below

Then click on Check for updates

check for updates

It will update Windows 10 if any updates are available

In case, you face any issue updating Windows 10 then visit the below link and Update Windows 10 Manually with the help of Windows 10 Update assistant.

Click on Update now


In case Windows 10 Update Assistant does not work, update Windows 10 from Microsoft Media Creation Tool

Visit this link and Click on Download tool now.

Then run media creation exe file and on Windows 10 setup click on Accept for Microsoft license terms.


Now on the next screen select Upgrade this PC now and click on Next.


Once the update is complete, restart your PC and then launch SupportAssist. In case the issue still persists, follow the next steps.

Uninstall SupportAssist from Apps & Features

In the case above fix does not work then Uninstall SupportAssist from Apps & Feature option – type Apps and feature in Windows search box and open Apps & Feature and uninstall all files related to SupportAssist. Pics show below

After Uninstalling SupportAsssist, restart the system and then reinstall the latest version of  SupportAssist
